My Story

Louis Leforestier, engraving-chiseling craftsman

Settled in France, in Normandy, it is with passion that I have been practicing the profession of engraving-chiseling craftsman for many years.

Since I was very young, I have been interested in art with a particular sensitivity for beautiful works: collectibles, furniture, watches... But it is with my father, a hunter, that I discovered a world that was to become a real passion: metal engraving. Captivated by the beauty, the meticulousness and the complexity of the engravings that adorn the most prestigious weapons, I was fascinated by this art. So much so that I wanted to make it my profession.

Very early on, I spent my free time researching and deepening my knowledge of traditional metal engraving techniques, thus nourishing my passion over the years. Already in middle school, I dreamed of going abroad to learn this ancestral know-how.

After completing my studies in high school, I obtained the golden ticket for the school I had been coveting for so many years: the prestigious school of armoury of Liege in Belgium. For two years, I was trained in the traditional techniques of engraving on hunting weapons, guided by talented teachers who are among the greatest master engravers in the world.

Engraving on weapon...

This traditional engraving technique requires several years of learning and practice before being perfectly mastered and executed. It is one of the most technical and complex engravings.

Its application requires extreme meticulousness, a lot of observation, patience... and humility too, to succeed in transforming a weapon into a real art object.

At the end of my studies, my curiosity and my desire to learn lead me to extend my know-how to other universes that fascinate me such as luxury watchmaking, cutlery and many other fields... Each new support, through its dimensions, its materials, its curves and also its history, is a new opportunity to perfect my technique and make my art evolve, while perpetuating this ancestral know-how.

After several professional experiences in Belgium and then in a prestigious watch manufacturer in Switzerland, I came back to France to set up my engraving workshop in my native land in Normandy. In 2014, I founded my company and opened my engraving workshop in order to practice my profession of engraving-chiseling craftsman with passion.

For several years, I have been putting my talent at the service of renowned companies, creators and craftsmen who operate in various sectors: art cutlery, traditional gunsmithing, watchmaking, jewelry, leather goods, ready-to-wear, art furniture, equestrian, automotive, motorcycle ... Individuals and private collectors also call on my expertise. Whatever your project, do not hesitate to contact me, I will gladly take the time to listen to you and to answer you.
