Made in partnership with the 1515 cutlery workshop, these meticulous engravings are original creations especially imagined and created by me, for a hunting show.

This series of knives pays tribute to the famous "Macnab Challenge". Each knife offers a different and original representation of the 3 animals that are at the heart of this challenge: the stag, the grouse and the salmon (see the history of the Macnab Challenge below).

Each of these scenes has been thought to perfectly ornate the different final supports: bolster and handle of the knives.

A first knife illustrates a salmon and a grouse engraved on the bolster. The presence of the stag is emphasized by the antlers integrated into the composition on each side of the knife.

A second knife shows a grouse in flight and a stag engraved on the bolster. The presence of the salmon is emphasized by a fishing line that follows the engraving on both sides of the knife.

The third knife has a fully engraved handle depicting a grouse in flight and a stag. In each of these two scenes, a salmon appears to emerge from the ornament on the side to catch a gold fly-fishing line, the movement of which crisscrosses the knife. The engraving is richly decorated with scrollwork. The knife's spacer is signed "Macnab challenge" with an ornament reminiscent of the fly fishing line...

Please note some remarkable details: gold inlay, contrast with the engraving in hollow background, small fly at the end of the fishing line...

The history of the Macnab Challenge

The famous Macnab Challenge is a mythical sporting challenge in Scotland that fascinates hunting enthusiasts. A real institution in Scotland!

The Macnab Challenge is inspired by the novel "John Macnab" written by John Buchan in 1925. The book tells the story of three brilliant men in search of adventure: a lawyer (Sir Edward Leithen), an Member of Parliament (John Palliser-Yeates) and a nobleman (the Earl of Lamancha). At the height of their respective careers and with nothing left to lose, they decide to challenge each other. The challenge is to poach a stag and a salmon from a nearby Scottish estate. They warn the owners of the land with a letter signed with the name of the central character of this novel "John Macnab". The book follows the exploits of this trio...

This novel is the starting point of what will become the "Macnab challenge": one of the most famous mythical sporting challenges in the hunting world. Today, to succeed in the Macnab challenge, you must be able to shoot a stag, two grouse and catch a salmon in a single day, from dawn to dusk.
